Clagett Farm
Pleasant Plains
On the Farm But Not Just Any Farm
Students in grade one from Pleasant Plains
elementary participated in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Clagett Farm program
on November 21st and 22nd. Clagett Farm is a living model
of environmentally sustainable farming practices. The farm demonstrated to the
students the relationship between land use and water quality in the Chesapeake
Bay and its tributaries. Students visited the beef cattle and chickens
throughout the trip. They utilized sweep nets in order to participate in an
insect survey and they investigated the forest by taking a nature walk with the
Chesapeake Bay Foundation educators. As a restoration project for this field
experience funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust the students will be participating
in a tree planting project at Oregon Ridge. Members from the Trust plan to be in attendance for this Robust
Restoration project and we are very excited from Pleasant Plains as the
students will not only be actively engaged planting trees but will be able to
share the exciting day they had at Clagett Farm with the organization that
funded the field experience.
